Pennypack Farm & Education Center (PFEC) is searching for committed board members to serve on our organization’s governing body.

About the PFEC Board
The PFEC Board of Directors is a group of committed, talented individuals passionate about supporting sustainable agriculture and their community. As the highest leadership body of the nonprofit, the board is responsible for maintaining and promoting the organizational identity, ensuring resources, and providing strategic oversight. The board has a crucial role in the success of the farm by working alongside the Executive Director and supporting its staff to establish, drive, and evaluate governance practices and strategic initiatives. The board manages and ensures the alignment of Pennypack Farm’s mission and values with its action.

Expectations of a PFEC board member include:

  • Understand the organization’s mission, programs, bylaws, and needs
  • Contribute to the development of policies and strategic plans.
  • Keep up with issues and trends that affect the organization.
  • Participate in the evaluation of business operations and executives
  • Understand and ensure fiduciary responsibilities are met
  • Review and approve audit reports, budgets, and business decisions
  • Ensure the organization complies with legal requirements
  • Seve as active ambassadors advocating for the farm and its mission
  • Give a meaningful personal financial donation to the organization

Optimal Candidates
The ideal board candidate for PFEC will have a passion for fresh food, hunger relief, sustainable agriculture, or an area adjacent to those categories. We look for Board Members who are collaborative, strategic and enthusiastic. There are specific areas of expertise that would bring an immediate value to our organization such as Public Relations, Fundraising, Communications, and Strategic Visioning, but we are open to candidates with other experiences as well.

Financial and Fundraising Commitment:
Board Members are expected to make a personally meaningful financial contribution annually. Board members are expected to participate in fundraising activities and help bring in funds to the organization.

Board Meetings:
The board meetings for 2022 are scheduled once per month on the second Tuesday of the month. The meetings are currently virtual, with some anticipated in-person meetings in the future. Board Members are expected to attend 80% of meetings annually.
